One of the UK’s oldest lions, Malaika has sadly died at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire.

Malaika, who was born at the park in 2005 and lived there her entire life, passed away peacefully in her sleep, just weeks before her 20th birthday.

According to Longleat, Malaika had been showing signs of age-related decline, which is being featured on this week’s episodes of the BBC’s Animal Park.

In a statement released on August 5, Darren Beasley, Head of Animal Operations, said:“Malaika was the matriarch of Harry’s pride and a favourite among both visitors and keepers. It was a peaceful passing, and we’re glad she was comfortable at the end.”
