Cats lick humans for a variety of reasons, often related to affection, scent marking, and comfort.
It's a way for them to show they care, share their scent, and even seek comfort or attention, though we all know their tongues are very rough!
Sometimes, excessive licking can indicate stress or anxiety, so it's important to observe your cat's overall behaviour.

So why do they do it?!
Affection and Bonding:
Just like cats groom each other to strengthen social bonds, they may lick you to show affection and acceptance as part of their "family".
Comfort and Security:
Licking can be a comforting behaviour for cats, and they may extend this to you, especially if they associate you with positive experiences like petting or cuddling.
Attention Seeking:
Your cat might lick you to get your attention, perhaps to initiate playtime, grooming, or simply a cuddle session.
Scent Marking:
Cats have scent glands on their face, and they may lick you to transfer their scent and mark you as part of their territory.
Licking can help cats create a shared scent, making you smell familiar and part of their social group.
Taste:
Cats might lick you because they enjoy the taste of your skin, perhaps due to remnants of food or lotions!
Anxiety or Stress:
While less common, excessive licking can be a sign of stress or anxiety.
If you notice this, it's best to consult with your vet to rule out any underlying health issues.
